Charity Vote Night – Weds 24th Feb 2010

For the first time we all met in the dining room at the Six Bells pub, which was very successful. We had the room to ourselves so were able to get on with our meeting without interruptions, but not before passing round fortune cookies to celebrate Chinese new year! The meeting went well, with lots of discussion regarding the possible increase in national membership fees. Luckily, Joanne and Marianne are due to attend the National Exec meeting on Saturday, so will be able to report back on that. We were pleased to receive a cheque from St Albans Round Table for helping with Santa and his float collections, which adds another £734 to our charity total this year. Our final fundraising event of 2009-10 will be on a quiz night 17th April, which the fundraising team are busy organising.
Finally the highlight of the evening was the charity vote. Four nominations from members were received to be our charity for the next Circle year starting in May and after hearing all about each charity, votes were cast. We are delighted to announce that The Paul Strickland Scanner Appeal will be our charity for the coming year, which provides the only cancer scanning service in Hertfordshire and is entirely run on donations. Well done everyone!
